Middlewich
Folk & Boat Festival: Friday 16th - Sunday 18th June 2006 |
Middlewich, situated at the junction of the Trent & Mersey and the Shropshire Union Canals, is an important crossroads in the Inland Waterways network, so come along and enjoy our festival. This year we are planning an even wider range of waterway related activities, craft displays and demonstrations as well as music and theatre. All at this time are subject to confirmation, but we are hoping to have horse drawn boat demonstrations, a visit from Daystar theatre, demonstrations of traditional canal crafts (including fender making, rag rugging, making spider knot belts, making traditional canal costume – bonnets etc, lace making, spinning, canal painting etc ), The International Guild of Knot Tyers will also be on hand to remind you how to tie those all important knots and also the traditional way of making rope. As well as attractions alongside the canal, the whole town becomes part of the festival, with street performers, a street parade, dance workshops, Morris dancing, artists from all over the world, a large marquee for concerts, as well as a variety of other venues around the town and in the pubs. The heritage boats will moor above Kings Lock on the Trent & Mersey Canal and other craft are free to moor where they wish. There will not be a charge for mooring. Many
boaters return year after year, but if you have never been to our festival
before, make sure you don’t miss out this year. Come and meet other
boaters, from all over the country and join in the festival.
