Fidlers Fancy

The original Fidlers team was founded in the late 1880’s by a Stockport fish merchant, Charles Burgess Fidler, to provide recreation and entertainment for Stopfordians and collect money for local charities.

The Fidlers fish business continues (now specialising in frozen foods) and the family allow the team to use, as its emblem, their trademark of a smiling fish!

In line with the aims of the original team, Fidlers Fancy carry on the tradition of collecting and performing for local and national charities, as well as undertaking professional bookings and dancing at national and international festivals.

A typical year can involve street performances in and around the Stockport area, supporting charitable organisations, hosting other Morris teams, summer evenings dancing out with other local Morris teams at pub venues, demonstrations for visitors to the region, imagescorporate events, birthday parties etc, and representing the Northwest and the United Kingdom at folk events both at home and abroad.

The team has been delighted to represent the United Kingdom at international events held in Brittany, Holland, Jersey, Moscow and Seattle.
